SHE'EH NE'ESAR ():

The pizmon or responsory hymn in the Seliḥot of the fast of the Seventeenth of Tammuz, the "fast of the fourth month" in Zech. viii. 19. It is signed with the acrostic Shelomoh (Ibn Gabirol; comp. Zunz, "Literaturgesch." p. 412), and deals with the four disasters of which the fast is traditionally the anniversary; viz.: (1) the breaking of the two tablets of the Law by Moses; (2) the cessation of the Temple daily offering; (3) the storming of the outer defenses of Jerusalem; and (4) the burning of the scroll of the Law by Apostomus. For the traditional melody see Jew. Encyc. ix. 133, s.v. Music, Synagogal.
