ALFAQUIN (also Alfaquein, Alfaqui, Alfuqui):

A surname given in Spain generally to the physician, and also to the secretary and interpreter, of the king. In Spain, Portugal, and Provence it corresponds to the name "ḥakim," which is the Arabic for "physician" or "sage" ("Jew. Quart. Rev." x. 531).
