BISTRITZ, ḲALMAN KOHN:

Hungarian Neo-Hebraic poet; lived at the beginning of the nineteenth century. He was the author of the Purim drama "Goral ha-Ẓaddiḳim" (The Lot of the Righteous), which appeared in Vienna, 1821. He belonged to the same family as Meïr Kohn Bistritz, and is considered a good epigrammatist.

Bibliography:
  • Fürst, Bibliotheca Judaica, i. 120;
  • Kayserling, in Winter and Wünsche, Jüdische Litteratur, iii. 896 (both mistakenly cite Bistritz's work as Gemul ha-Ẓaddiḳim [The Reward of the Righteous]);
  • Berliner, Beiträge zur Gesch. des Jüdischen Drama, appended to his edition of R. Moses Zacuto's Yesod 'Olam, p. xviii., Berlin, 1874.
